Ogun State Bureau of Public Procurement has organised training on the use of standard bidding documents for Heads of Procurement Units in all procuring entities, Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), parastatals, tertiary institutions and Local Government Areas of the state.
Speaking during the four-day programme in Abeokuta, the Director General, Ogun State Bureau of Public Procurement, Dr. Adesina Olanloye, stated that compliance with Procurement Reform was the key to solving some of the economic problems in the country, saying standard bidding documents were used to ensure that bidders for prospective projects comply with the provisions of the law, guidelines and regulations, to achieve value for money and engender public confidence in government.
“Government policies executed through proper procurement practice would save cost and give value for money spent. There is also a need for accountability, transparency, fairness and professionalism in the procurement process and the adoption of the standard bidding documents will help in that aspect”, he said.
Speaking, the Procurement Reform Specialist, Engr. Bashiru Olayiwola, highlighted the importance of the training to include, use of standard bidding documents, to regulate procurement of goods, works and services, making procurement transparent and fair to all vendors and contractors, as well as introducing competitiveness into the procurement process.
One of the facilitators, Mr. Akindele Akinrinmade, explained that the objective of the training was for participants to get acquainted with the use of standard bidding documents in carrying out procurement activities, equip them with the required knowledge and skills to perform the procurement functions in their various procuring entities.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, Mrs. Oluwabunmi Amos from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Mr. Ekundayo Temitope from Tai Sholarin University of Education, appreciated the Bureau for the training, as it has helped to educate and broaden their knowledge on public procurement.
