Functions of the Department of Tourism, Development and Promotions includes:

• Preserve, project and promote the rich heritage and tourism potentials of the State locally and internationally;
• Identify and regulate areas for tourism development in the State and demarcate them into Tourism Zones;
• Facilitate tourism land allocation with relevant government agencies;
• Identify, standardize, categorise, register and control all tourism facilities and operators within the State;
• Formulate training policies and programmes for tourism industry workers and students interested in making tourism a profession;
• Facilitate in conjunction with the private sector, workshops, symposia and other enlightenment programmes to project tourism in the State;
• Promote and project our indigenous cuisines by encouraging their presentation in our hotels, restaurants, eateries as well as State functions;
• Promote and project our indigenous handicrafts and fabrics locally, nationally and internationally;
• Encourage the formation of various tourism professional bodies and facilitate enduring cooperation amongst them and other Local and International Tourism Bodies and Agencies;
