About Us

Brief about the Ministry

    The Ministry had been in existence since the creation of Ogun State in 1976. However, it has gone through various changes in term of structure and mandate overtime.

At a time, it was known and addressed as Ministry of Works and Housing while the past Civilian Administration between the periods of May, 2003 to May, 2011 excised Housing functions from the Agency and renamed it Ministry of Works. However, at inception of the present Administration, “Infrastructure development” became a key focus, hence the Agency’s present name of Ministry of Works and Infrastructure.

The Ministry has the responsibility for the construction and effective maintenance of roads across the State. The Ministry has its Headquarters in Block C of the New Secretariat Complex, Oke-Mosan. The Ministry also supervises the Ogun State Public Works Agency (OGPWA)

Responsibilities

  1. Formulating and implementing policies, programmes and projects of the Ogun State Government with respect to Highway construction and rehabilitation;
  2. Highways planning and designing;
  3. Construction and maintenance of roads, bridges and culverts across Ogun State
  4. Supervision of Road Construction projects awarded to major contractors in the State
  5. Mechanical Engineering Consultancy
  6. Design of Statistical Data and Research Development
  7. Preparation of Bidding Documents
  8. Initiate and manage Public Private Partnership (PPP) Project
  9. Renders Consultancy Services to other Ministries, Department and Agencies and Private Sector
  10. Coordination of Donor based Assisted Projects
  11. Acquisition and Maintenance of vehicle and Heavy-Duty Plants
  12. Preparation, evaluation and review of Contract agreement for construction
  13. Registration and Renewal of Contractors Certificate for Construction
  14. Any other responsibility that may be assigned to it by the State Government.

Structure of the Ministry

The Ministry has seven (7) departments and two (2) Offices with a Political Head known as the Honourable Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure while the Accounting Officer is the Permanent Secretary.  The Ministry is structured with the following Offices/Departments:

  • Department of Highway Construction (Major Contract)
  • Department of Highway Construction (Direct Labour)
  • Department of Planning, Research, and Statistics
  • Department of Mechanical Engineering Services
  • Department of Administration and Supplies
  • Department of Finance and Accounts
  • Department of Information Technology.

Programmes/Projects of the Ministry

The programmes/Projects currently under the Ministry include:

  • Ogun State Agro Cargo International Airport
  • Construction of roads and bridges across the State.
