Ogun State Head of Service (HoS), Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun, has charged the members of staff in the management cadre in the Civil Service to embrace training, as such would enhance their skills and commitment to effectively discharge their statutory duties.
Mr. Fagbohun gave the charge while declaring open a two-day training programme, organised by the Bureau of Establishments and Training, Office of the Head of Service, for Management Level Officers in the Ogun State Civil/Public Service, with the theme, "Sustaining the Growth Agenda in Ogun State", at the Hilltop Tavern Hotel, Ojere, Abeokuta.
He noted that continuous learning ensures transformative power for individuals and organisations, including the Civil Service, adding that the commitment of the state government to enhance the skills, as well as expansion of the perspectives of the participants, would fortify leadership capabilities.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Mr. 'Jola Oyeneye, the HoS said the current realities in the country had made efficient management of resources more important, saying the government’s success at this period rests on the capability of resource managers across various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), whose performance to a large extent depends on their capacity development.
"Sustaining government programmes and initiatives at a period like this depends largely on availability of funds. Thus, constraining the state government to evolve ways of increasing its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), to be able to make meaningful impacts. These top management staff must be adequately trained with necessary knowledge and skills, not only to manage the resources of the state but also to improve on revenue generation", he said.
The number one Civil Servant urged participants to take the training with an open mind, eagerness to learn and determination to translate acquired knowledge into impactful actions, appreciating Governor Abiodun for prioritising staff welfare, as shown in his approval of various allowances, and bonuses, as well as capacity building of workers in the state.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Establishments and Training, Mrs. Lydia Fajounbo, said the training was the second in the series of management staff training but the first in the year 2024, would improve the capacity of participants in effective and quality service delivery, as well as enhancement of increased IGR.
In their separate remarks, the Director-General, Bureau of Public Procurement, Dr. Adesina Olanloye and a Public Relations expert, Pastor Abimbola Alagbe, urged the participants to take advantage of the training, in order to improve their skills for increased productivity as Public Servants, while exhibiting due process in all their statutory activities.
Some participants, including the Director, Vehicle Inspection Office, Engr. Adegboyega Ademehin and the Director, Administration and Supplies, Ogun State Technical and Vocational Education Board, Mrs. Funmilayo Oshodi, noted that the training was timely and would further widen their horizon in discharging their duties.
