As part of its efforts to make teachers perform optimally in their various fields, Ogun State Technical and Vocational Education Board (OGSTVEB), under Ogun State Economic Transformation Programme(OGSTEP), has trained teachers and technical instructors across technical colleges in the state.
The Acting Executive Secretary, OGSTVEB, Mr. Akinleye Olubori, while speaking during a 2-day Pedagogy Training, at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, stated that the training was initiated to ensure that teachers deliver effectively and impactful on students, while exposing them to modern trends in teaching methodology.
"For you to meet up with the evolving world, you need to be trained and retrain because the purpose of training is to become a better teacher now and later in future", he said.
On his part, Project Manager, Skills Development Sector, OGSTEP, Mr. Fatai Ososanya, said the training would improve teachers' learning and teaching capabilities, saying it would also allow them to share knowledge to enable them impart effectively to their students.
Delivering his lecture, the resource person from Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Prof. Adekunle Bamiro, said it was imperative for teachers to teach in a conducive environment and also be friendly with their students, so as to achieve better performance, advising them to be technologically-oriented, use different communication skills like speech, writing, facial expressions, eye contact, physical movement and other attitudinal inflections, among others, to transmit knowledge.
In their separate reactions, Mr. Jeremiah Adeniran and Miss. Comfort Dosu from Government Science and Technical College, Ilara Remo and Ayetoro, respectively, lauded the government for the programme, saying knowledge garnered would be effectively and efficiently utilised.
