The department is responsible for the following among others:

1. Provision, repair and maintenance of road construction plant and equipment for the Ministry
2. Acquisition, repair and maintenance of the Ministry’s official vehicles
3. Operation and maintenance of power generating plants for the State Government.
4. Rendering of services and acts as consultant to other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), and Private Firms on matters relating to mechanical engineering.
